Golden Etta Star, Excellent, Senior Superior Sire, owned by the Golden Etta Star Syndicate, has qualified for the Century Sire Award with 105 test daughters averaging 10,639 lbs. milk, 558 lbs. fat and 112 classified daughters averaging 88.2%. He ranks fourth for classification among the Century Sires.
He first received Senior Superior Sire rating on Dec. 31, 1959, with ten daughters averaging 9,803 lbs. milk, 513 lbs. fat and 10 classified daughters averaging 88.41%. His average has increased steadily - the last one, which gave him Century Sire honors, was the tenth reaverage.
Bread by Chester Folck and Sons, Springsfield, Ohio, one-half interest was sold to Mack Manor Farms, Orland, Ind., in the 1956 Folck Classic when the bull was 16 months of age. The Mack Manor interest was sold to Shadel, McKibben and Hall, Christmas Acres, Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 1, 1958. He was offered in the Golden Etta Star Sale on Nov. 11, 19 61, where he was purchased by the Golden Etta Star Syndicate, consisting of Pioneer Farm, Old Lyme, Conn.; Borg Farms, Delavan, Wis.; Judge Jerseys, Orlando, Fla.; Chester Folck and Sons; Hetherington Jerseys, Glendale, Ohio' and Reg. Broad of Australia. The price, $37,000, remand the highest amount paid for an American bread Jersey bull sold at auction until the 1967 All American Sale, when Vaucluse Sleeping Surville set a new record at $56,000.
Golden Etta Star was bred to combine the blood of two National Grand Champion females, both equally famous as brood cows - Golden Jersey Star, his dam, and Sybil Design Etta, his paternal great-grandam. His dam, Golden Jersey Star, grand champion at the National Jersey Show and the Royal Winter Fair in 1956, is the Tested Dam of the three sons and four daughters averaging 11,812 - 644. All three of those sons are Excellent, Senior Superior Sires, and the three of the daughters are Excellent, Ton of Gold, Tested Dams. She has eight Excellent offspring and nine of her progeny have sold at auction for a total of $99,950.
Sybil Design Etta, the dam of his paternal grandam, Oxford Design Etta, was National Grand Champion in 1947 and 1948. She was an Excellent, Gold Medal, Tested Dam, and headed a family that has won nine National Grand Championships. She was the dam of four Excellent off-spring, two National Grand Champions, a Medal of Merit and a Gold Medal daughter.
The sire of Golden Etta Star, Ettas Jester Advancer, is a son of Jester Standard Advancer, Excellent, Superior Sire of 165 daughters averaging 9,328 - 475 -213 classified daughters averaging 86.8%.
Golden Etta Star has seven Ton of Gold daughters. His highest producing daughter is Golden Etta Pauline, now owned by Sunbeam Farms, Cherryville, N.C., with 5-5 365 18,660 1,117 2x. Shi is classified Excellent.
Four daughters of Golden Etta Star accomplished a rare feet in 1959. They placed first in the junior get of sire class at the 1959 All American Show - and less than two months later, the same four heifers, fresh and showing as 2-year-olds, won the senior get of sire class at the International Dairy Show. At the 1960 All American Show, Golden Etta Star daughters stood first, second and third in the 2-year-old class. The following year, Golden Etta Beauty was Jersey Jug Futurity winner for Myers Jerseys Farm, Troy, Ohio, with paternal sisters standing third , seventh and ninth.
Golden Etta Star offspring have topped many sales. The first Golden Etta Star Sale in November 1961, in which the bull was offered along with many of his offspring and cows carrying his service, averaged $2,105.
The new Century Sire is now in is 14th year and is still active at private service.
